This is an animation of a Stuart Beam Steam Engine that was done using SolidWorks parametric solid modeling solftware. Students in the Mechanical Engineering program at Bates Technical College first drew 2D detailed drawings of all of the individual parts of the steam engine using AutoCAD. These parts were then created as 3D solid parts, which could be put together into subassemblies and finally, into the full assembly that could then be animated, as you see it in operation here.
