In this article I shall assume that you have already decided that you are in need of a new job. The focus here shall be what should you be asking yourself to make sure that you take the right position for you.
Too often when people decide that they are going to get a new job they just look for one paying the best money, or the one closest to home. But taking a job is something that should be given careful consideration and it helps if you have considered the parameters that you are setting yourself to begin with
1. How far are you willing to travel?
Distance, especially with fuel prices so high these days, is a vital factor... how far are you willing to travel? It will help rule out certain roles.
2. Salary
How much are you getting paid right now, how much are you looking for? Will you drop it for a job closer to home, or with better career prospects?
3. Career
Do you need a set career path for you to follow, or are you happy playing it all by ear and letting a company match up your skills?
4. Company size
Do you work better in large cooperate environments and a set role, or in a small company where they expect you to wear many 'hats'?
5. New skills
Is it important that the new role help you develop new skills ot are you happy doing what you are doing with your current skill set.
This is just a taster of the some of the questions that you need to be asking yourself BEFORE you begin your job hunt, that way it can stop wasted interview times, job applications and perhaps most important stop you taking a job that isn't really for you.
